About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct, age-specific nursing care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents and their families
- Deliver and accurately document care based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care
- Safely administer prescribed medications and identify incompatibilities or interactions
- Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, wellness maintenance, and provision of comfort
- Recognize or anticipate changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately
- Mobilize resources to meet individualized patient and family needs
- Provide direction and education; assume unit-level leadership responsibilities as applicable to clinical level
- Organize work, delegate assignments, and supervise RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, and others
- Follow physician/licensed independent provider orders, Virginia nursing regulations, ANA ethics, VCUHS policies, and established nursing standards
- Work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays according to unit requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
- Current RN licensure in Virginia for continued employment
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
- Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing
- RN experience: Clin II requires 12 to 24 months; Clin III requires 3 years of clinical experience
- Nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or higher must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete it within five years, unless grandfathered
- Work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to lift 20–50 lbs
- Ability to handle potentially hazardous and infectious substances
- Prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking; climbing; overhead, extensive, and repetitive reaching
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, and logical thinking
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment, handle multiple priorities, and manage frequent and intense customer interactions
