About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct, age-specific nursing care to patients based on medical orders and an integrated multidisciplinary plan of care
- Accurately document patient care
- Safely administer prescribed medications and identify incompatibilities or interactions
- Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, wellness maintenance, and patient comfort
- Provide direction and education to patients, families, and team members
- Recognize or anticipate changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately
- Mobilize resources to meet individualized patient and family needs
- Assume unit-level leadership responsibilities and serve as a clinical role model, depending on clinical level
- Organize work and delegate and supervise assignments performed by RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, and others
- Follow physician or licensed independent provider orders and VCUHS policies and procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state for hire
- Current RN licensure in Virginia and AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment
- Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing
- Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete it within five years, unless grandfathered under previous requirements
- Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
- Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience
- Clin I preferred experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or applicable area of practice
- Clin II and Clin III preferred academic health care experience and experience with a similar patient population
- Clin III preferred certification in specialty area
- Ability to follow physician/licensed independent provider orders
- Practice within regulations governing nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Practice guided by ANA Code of Ethics, national nursing practice standards, and VCUHS policies and procedures
- Ability to organize work, delegate, and supervise RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, and others
- Ability to lift 20–50 lbs.
- Ability to handle prolonged standing, sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, and reaching
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, and logical thinking
- Ability to work in fast-paced, steady-paced, noisy environments and manage multiple priorities and frequent intense customer interactions
