About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide continuous virtual 1:1 safety observation of assigned patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse
  • Maintain visual contact and promptly redirect patients using two-way audio and video equipment
  • Monitor and prioritize multiple patients while performing typing, technical equipment use, safety checks, and documentation
  • Identify, report, and escalate patient safety concerns to nursing staff
  • Summon nursing staff when patients require immediate assistance
  • Provide basic technical support and triage complex telemedicine-system problems
  • Use Virtual Safety Monitoring software, monitors, two-way audio, and virtual webcams
  • Support the nursing plan of care within the VSA scope of practice
  • Distribute, position, troubleshoot, retrieve, and sanitize VSM Guardian devices and related equipment
  • Document virtual support activities, incidents, patient behaviors, and observations according to hospital and nursing policies
  • Provide customer service and direction to patients, families, and visitors
  • Participate in quality initiatives, unit-based QA/CQI activities, mandatory training, and special projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED
  • Current AHA BLC HCP certification
  • 6 months or more working within a health care or related field using medical terminology
  • Typing, multitasking, and basic computer skills
  • Ability to function independently and manage time and work tasks
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and during inclement weather
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with PHI, HIPAA, security, compliance, email, infection-control, and incident-reporting policies
  • Ability to provide equitable, culturally competent, and respectful care and communication
  • Required car travel to off-site locations occasionally, including in adverse weather
  • Preferred: certification, training, or associate degree or higher in a health-related field
  • Preferred: experience using EMR, computer-based triage, virtual work experience, and organizational technology including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, webcam, headset, and telephone
