About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and evolve infrastructure powering Vercel’s build and deployment lifecycle, including webhooks, resilient database schemas, and scalable APIs.
  • Design and operate high-performance microservices processing millions of builds daily.
  • Lead projects end-to-end, from identifying opportunities through technical direction and delivery.
  • Improve performance, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate across teams to align infrastructure with company-wide goals and seamless developer workflows.
  • Shape the long-term vision and standards for agentic infrastructure scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and maintain critical-system reliability.
  • Contribute to the open-source community.
  • Write clean, efficient, tested, and documented code.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating backend applications and distributed systems at scale.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Strong proficiency with AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong proficiency with Terraform infrastructure as code.
  • Track record of end-to-end ownership from design and implementation through long-term production operation.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams, influence priorities, and drive alignment.
  • Ability to reason about technical direction and architectural tradeoffs.
  • Mentorship, code review, or raising the bar on team development.
  • Curiosity and motivation to push the boundaries of modern software development.
  • Bonus: familiarity with React or Next.js.
  • Bonus: experience with DynamoDB.
  • Bonus: experience developing a CI/CD platform or internal developer platform.
  • Bonus: open-source project experience.
  • Bonus: experience optimizing build systems for monorepo or polyrepo setups.
