About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Grow Verdesian’s retail customer base within the assigned Southern Illinois territory by selling the full product portfolio
  • Identify and onboard new retail partners
  • Provide product training and expert guidance to support product adoption
  • Develop and execute annual territory and business plans
  • Collaborate with VIP customers
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts to ensure product availability
  • Manage operating budgets responsibly
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing and R&D to align product development with customer needs
  • Drive business growth by calling on and building business with new retailers
  • Establish a recurring book of business and achieve territory revenue and profit targets
  • Own the full sales cycle from cold calling and initial retailer engagement through product sales and retailer management
  • Maintain product knowledge and build retailer relationships as a consultant
  • Overcome market challenges and position Verdesian product value
  • Forecast future sales and budgets
  • Execute lead-generation campaigns and research trials as appropriate
  • Structure weekly and monthly sales efforts to achieve business plans and territory targets
  • Engage Marketing, Customer Service, and other departments regarding market trends and future territory growth
  • Facilitate business relationships and contribute to public relations
  • Perform other Account Manager duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 5 years of full-time exempt sales experience in the agriculture industry
  • Experience selling inoculants, fertilizer enhancers, and/or micronutrients is a plus
  • BA or BS degree in an agriculture-related field preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or related field, or Agronomy listed as preferred education
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop deep working relationships
  • Ability to articulate product benefits and selling points based on retailer needs
  • Proven persuasion and negotiation skills
  • Effective time management and organization skills
  • Proven B2B sales track record
  • Ability to establish rapport with Chemical Fertilizer Dealership Staff, Certified Crop Advisors, and Independent Crop Consultants
  • Ability to engage with academic arenas
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and CRM systems
  • Clean driving record and ability to travel long distances
  • Interest in and belief in the importance of nutrient use efficiency
  • Strong understanding of biological technologies related to agriculture is a plus
  • Experience in lead generation and qualification is a plus
  • Ability to understand and deploy EPA and state regulations
  • Ability to work as a team player, be innovative, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented
  • Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit
