About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead network security designs, deployment strategies, and automation efforts across the Verizon network
  • Collaborate with Planning and Design teams to architect security policies for new and existing environments and network segments
  • Evaluate and approve network firewall rules and ACLs
  • Audit security controls within major network environments
  • Manage transport configurations supporting site-to-site VPN tunnels
  • Translate complex business and technical requirements into scalable architectural designs and implementation roadmaps
  • Design fault-tolerant platform architectures for long-term growth and reliability at scale
  • Drive access control design for major projects and collaborate with application owners on policy optimization
  • Set Network Security engineering standards and lead enterprise-wide knowledge sharing
  • Evolve organizational workflows to improve collaboration and accountability
  • Oversee deployment strategies and hardware/software lifecycle management
  • Architect a resilient 24x7 support model with automation and observability
  • Define and track KPIs and SLOs for platform performance and scalability
  • Evaluate new platforms and manage vendor evaluations
  • Lead internal investigations and RFOs for access control incidents
  • Extract lessons learned from incidents

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work and/or military experience or specialized training
  • Experience in Network and Security Operations
  • Hands-on experience with firewall engineering, including F5, Juniper, Palo Alto, Check Point, Cisco, or Fortinet
  • Experience with networking and routing protocols, including TCP/IP and VPN
  • Knowledge of network security fundamentals and best practices
  • Strong troubleshooting capability for network connections and complex network access and routing issues
  • Ability to participate in technical discussions and handle on-call duties
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lead complex tasks and projects
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers
  • High standards of accountability and work ethics
  • High-level understanding of access control design impact on a large and complex production network
  • Understanding of VCP Core, Edge, and Far Edge networks end-to-end
  • CISSP, CCNP, Palo Alto, Juniper, FortiGate, or F5 certifications preferred
  • Experience training and mentoring junior engineers preferred
