About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Drive security initiatives and engage product development teams to embed security throughout Verizon products
- Perform security architecture and design reviews
- Conduct threat modeling, code reviews, and business logic reviews
- Act as the main driving force for security within the development community
- Continuously assess workflows and leverage engineering expertise to build automated processes and AI agents
- Provide expert escalation support when automated solutions fall short
- Provide software and security expertise in business and technical forums
- Lead discussions with development teams and provide security consultation and subject matter expertise
- Evaluate security posture and recommend improvements and risk reduction measures
- Evaluate threats and attacks affecting Web, API, Mobile, Cloud, IoT, and AI systems
- Help develop and implement appropriate security controls
- Drive adoption of security as a shared responsibility by empowering product teams with knowledge and tools
- Maintain current knowledge of programming languages, data architectures, and automation frameworks
- Develop AI agents and automation tooling to streamline routine security tasks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
- Six or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work and/or military experience or specialized training
- Security experience across multiple domains, including Web, API, Containers, Mobile (Apple/Android), Cloud (AWS), IoT, Networking, and AI
- Product development experience, including software development life cycle or product delivery
- Experience performing security requirements analyses for large Web, IoT, mobile, and/or AI systems
- Development experience in Swift, Java, Scala, Python, C/C++, or other languages
- Ability to solve complex operational issues
- Experience in root cause analysis and problem-solving within a complex technical environment
- Understanding of security vulnerabilities, penetration testing, and application security scanning tools such as Fortify and Tenable
- Experience using and building AI systems and agentic workflows using technologies such as Claude Code Skills, LangChain, or LangGraph
- Proficiency in mobile security and application development across iOS and Android platforms
- Proven background conducting penetration testing for mobile and web applications
- Industry-standard certification such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CCSP, CCSK, GSEC, GIAC, or GPEN
- Experience with Jira or similar project management tools
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and maturity models
- Ability to engage with and influence product teams and leadership
- Familiarity with security debt and strategies for its reduction
