About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and perform full-scope penetration testing on complex, high-risk web applications, infrastructure, APIs, and mobile applications
  • Analyze and resolve complex issues involving variable factors
  • Interpret broad goals and independently craft and execute plans
  • Configure and safely use attacker tools, tactics, and procedures in Verizon environments
  • Develop comprehensive reports and presentations for technical and executive audiences
  • Make collaborative and independent decisions on exposure impact to Verizon
  • Act as a subject matter expert on vulnerability impact, ratings, and remediation recommendations
  • Help define penetration testing with AI strategy and standards
  • Support, design, and architect an in-house AI penetration-testing harness
  • Communicate findings and strategy to technical staff, executive leadership, legal counsel, and client stakeholders
  • Provide pragmatic, risk-appropriate recommendations to stakeholders and developers
  • Translate functional plans into operational processes
  • Guide development of scripts, tools, and methodologies to improve penetration-testing processes
  • Provide technical oversight and mentor junior penetration testers
  • Advance the team’s offensive security capabilities and ability to defend Verizon Enterprise

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work and/or military experience or specialized training
  • Six or more years of application/network penetration testing or security experience
  • Experience thinking like an attacker and performing hands-on penetration testing
  • Ability to mentor and lead junior penetration testers
  • Ability to translate highly technical information for internal customers
  • Experience developing AI toolkits and understanding AI LLMs and MCPs preferred
  • Knowledge of secure software deployment methodologies, tools, and practices
  • Experience with application security risk procedures, security patterns, authentication technologies, and security attack pathologies
  • Certifications such as GXPN, GPEN, eWPT, GCIH, GWAPT, OSCP, OSWA, OSCE, or OSWE preferred
  • ITILv2/3 knowledge preferred
  • Deep understanding of OWASP Top 10, OWASP API Top 10, and MASVS
  • Strong knowledge of penetration-testing tools including Kali Linux, Metasploit, Wireshark, Burp Suite, Cobalt Strike, Nessus, WebInspect, and SQLMap
  • Experience leading small penetration-testing teams and driving process and strategy
  • Understanding of containerization platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes and virtual machines under hypervisors
  • Implementation-level familiarity with modern exploitation classes
  • Mastery of Unix/Linux/Mac/Windows operating systems, including Bash and PowerShell
  • Programming skills and ability to read and assess applications written in Python, Java, .NET, C#, or other languages
  • Experience with system and application security threats, vulnerabilities, secure configuration management, software debugging, software design, and software development models
  • Knowledge of secure coding techniques
  • Knowledge of application security vulnerabilities and exploitation techniques
  • Knowledge of software-related IT security principles and methods
  • Knowledge of network security architecture concepts, including topology, protocols, components, and defense-in-depth
  • Knowledge of security architecture concepts and enterprise architecture reference models
  • Knowledge of discerning protection needs and security controls for information systems and networks
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities
  • Continuous learning and staying current on security trends, tools, technologies, and best practices
