About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee and advance environmental programs predominantly in the upstream oil and gas industry, Oil Sands, and mining sectors across Western Canada

  • Deliver cost-effective, efficient monitoring programs aligned with regulatory compliance in the Oil Sands and mining sectors
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior and intermediate staff
  • Participate in R&D initiatives addressing site closure, site management, and compliance challenges
  • Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-focused team culture
  • Collaborate with Vertex managers for safe and effective staff scheduling
  • Promote a proactive safety culture for projects and field operations
  • Build and grow client relationships through strategic project delivery
  • Identify opportunities to expand client services
  • Oversee performance and financials of programs under direction
  • Provide expert advice on strategy, document delivery, and project progress
  • Stay current and compliant with environmental regulations and guidelines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Diploma or degree in environmental science, biology, or related field
  • Professional designation for sign-off in Alberta (British Columbia and /Saskatchewan an asset)
  • 5+ years of environmental experience
  • Experience with reclamation planning for mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and linear disturbances
  • Experience with reclamation monitoring and assessment for mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and linear disturbances (soil, vegetation)
  • Strong project management skills, including cost estimates, schedules, budgets, and client engagement
  • Willingness to conduct field work for training, mentoring and to support field execution of programs; expected field requirement is up to 70% of allotted time during the field season
  • Proven leadership in team growth and performance
  • Effective communication, time management, and organizational skills
