About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct remote patient triage and support by assessing pet symptoms and medical histories through teletriage
- Determine the level of care needed and direct pet owners to appropriate next steps
- Provide compassionate client education and support after consultations
- Answer questions about symptom management and medication administration
- Schedule follow-up appointments or check-ins
- Coordinate referrals to in-person clinics for further diagnostics or treatment
- Accurately document patient histories and client interactions
- Provide emergency virtual triage for urgent cases
- Assess whether urgent situations require emergency intervention and advise clients on first steps
- Provide technical support for virtual consultations using the Smart.Vet platform
- Guide clients through platform use and troubleshoot consultation issues
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must hold an active registration in Ontario or Alberta
- Must be a current member in good standing with the OAVT/ABVTA
- Minimum of 3–5 years experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist (RVT)
- Minimum of 1 year of direct customer service experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in using technology, including computers, virtual consultations, and telehealth platforms
- Must have a quiet dedicated workspace at home
- Reliable high-speed internet access
- Laptop or desktop computer
- Capable of exercising sound judgment and problem-solving independently in a remote setting
- Must be available to work on weekends
- Must successfully pass an internet speed test
