About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide overnight program activities in a community living arrangement
- Provide direct service and daily routine and episodic nursing aide care to individuals with brain injuries and complex health needs
- Administer medication and treatments under Medication Administration Program (MAP) guidelines and Vinfen policies
- Use rehabilitation values, principles, techniques, and skills training to support independent living
- Assist individuals with community integration, activities of daily living, personal hygiene, household chores, nutrition, and appointments
- Monitor individuals for physical, mental, or emotional changes
- Provide wound care, foot care, skin checks, vital signs, and passive range of motion exercises as needed or ordered
- Conduct fire and safety training and document activities
- Provide transportation to medical, dental, and other appointments as directed
- Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and compliant environment, including housekeeping, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
- Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, incidents, and medication errors
- Maintain accurate and current medical records, confidential files, equipment, and supplies
- Communicate client status and care information to managers, colleagues, staff, families, guardians, agencies, and providers
- Safely use and maintain wheelchairs, Hoyer lifts, walkers, glucometers, nebulizers, oxygen, and other medical equipment
- Support participation in home, program, and community events
- Respect and encourage individual preferences and choices; advocate for individuals served
- Develop relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and significant others
- Collaborate with Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers
- Attend staff, training, and community meetings
- Act as a positive role model and assist with orienting new staff
- Adhere to Vinfen policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Prior experience as a CNA, preferably with people with a brain injury
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CNA license in Massachusetts required
- CPR required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- MAP required within 150 days of hire
- Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
- May be asked to obtain CBIS certification (Certified Brain Injury Specialist)
- Valid driver’s license required at employment
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid US driver’s license maintained for at least six months
- Adequate insurance and safe driving record required when using a personal vehicle
- Must pass a driver’s screening background check
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds, and assist clients with activities of daily living
- Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
- Skills and competencies of a CNA
- Knowledge of brain injury, documentation standards, personal computer applications, teaching modalities, empowerment and self-advocacy techniques, and human, legal, civil rights, community, and other resources
- Ability to communicate verbally, document nursing care, balance competing priorities, make independent judgments, work collaboratively, and work confidentially
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, ethnic, disability, and gender issues
