About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct service and daily routine and episodic nursing aide care to individuals with brain injuries and complex health needs
  • Administer medication and treatments according to MAP guidelines and Vinfen policies
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including vital signs, laundry, toileting, showering, dressing, shaving, wound care, foot care, skin checks, and passive range of motion exercises
  • Monitor individuals for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status
  • Provide for nutritional needs
  • Transport, assist, and accompany individuals to medical, dental, and other appointments
  • Maintain safe, clean, welcoming, and respectful rooms and common areas meeting safety and regulatory standards
  • Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, incidents, and medication errors accurately
  • Maintain current and accurate medical records, confidential files, equipment, and supplies
  • Communicate status changes and other information to managers, colleagues, families, guardians, and providers
  • Safely use and maintain wheelchairs, Hoyer lifts, walkers, glucometers, nebulizers, oxygen, and other medical equipment
  • Create opportunities for participation in home, program, and community events
  • Encourage and respect individual preferences and choices; advocate for individuals served
  • Develop relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and other significant contacts
  • Collaborate with Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and community meetings
  • Serve as a positive role model and assist with new staff orientation
  • Adhere to Vinfen policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Prior experience as a CNA, preferably with people with a brain injury
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CNA license in Massachusetts required
  • Valid driver's license presented at employment
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months
  • Adequate insurance and safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
  • Must pass a driver’s screening background check
  • CPR required within two weeks of hire
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • MAP required within 150 days of hire
  • Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
  • May be asked to obtain CBIS certification (Certified Brain Injury Specialist)
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, and perform physically active duties
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer
  • Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
  • Ability to communicate with clients, staff, families, guardians, and external representatives
  • Skills and competencies of a CNA
  • Knowledge of brain injury, human/legal/civil rights, community resources, empowerment, self-advocacy techniques, teaching modalities, and personal computer applications
  • Ability to document nursing care accurately, balance competing priorities, make independent judgments, and work confidentially
