About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct service and daily routine and episodic nursing aide care to individuals with brain injuries and complex health needs
- Administer medication and treatments under Medication Administration Program (MAP) guidelines and Vinfen policies
- Assist with activities of daily living, including community membership, vital signs, laundry, toileting, showering, dressing, shaving, wound care, foot care, skin checks, and passive range of motion exercises
- Monitor individuals for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status
- Provide for nutritional needs
- Transport, assist, and accompany individuals to medical, dental, and other appointments
- Maintain safe, clean, welcoming, and respectful rooms and common areas that meet safety and regulatory standards
- Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, incident reports, and medication errors according to policy
- Maintain accurate and current medical records, confidential files, paperwork, equipment, and supplies
- Communicate client status and care information with managers, colleagues, Vinfen staff, families, guardians, and community providers
- Safely use and maintain wheelchairs, walkers, Hoyer lifts, glucometers, nebulizers, oxygen, and other medical equipment
- Provide opportunities for participation in home/program and community events
- Encourage and respect individual preferences and choices; advocate for individuals served
- Develop effective relationships with individuals served, families, guardians, and significant others
- Collaborate with Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers
- Attend and actively participate in staff, training, and community meetings
- Act as a positive role model and assist with orientation of new staff
- Adhere to Vinfen policies and procedures and perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Prior experience as a CNA, preferably with people with a brain injury
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Massachusetts CNA license required
- Valid driver’s license presented at employment
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid US driver’s license maintained for at least six months
- Adequate insurance and safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
- Ability to pass a driver’s screening background check
- CPR required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- MAP required within 150 days of hire
- Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
- May be asked to obtain CBIS certification
- Skills and competencies of a CNA
- Knowledge of brain injury
- Ability to communicate verbally and document nursing care accurately and effectively
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues
- Knowledge of human, legal, civil rights, community, and other resources
- Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques
- Knowledge of teaching modalities
- Ability to balance competing priorities and make independent judgments and decisions
- Ability to work in a professional and confidential capacity
- Knowledge of personal computer applications and equipment
- Ability to perform physically active work, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
- Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer
- Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
- Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
