About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist with activities of daily living according to treatment plans and ISPs, including vital signs, laundry, toileting, showering, dressing, shaving, wound care, foot care, skin checks, community membership, and passive range of motion exercises
  • Monitor individuals for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status
  • Administer medication and treatments according to MAP guidelines and Vinfen policies
  • Provide for nutritional needs
  • Transport, assist, and accompany individuals to medical, dental, and other appointments
  • Maintain safe, clean, welcoming, and respectful individual rooms and common areas
  • Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, and maintain accurate confidential records
  • Follow incident reporting and medication error procedures
  • Communicate client status changes with managers, staff, families, guardians, and colleagues
  • Safely operate and maintain wheelchairs, Hoyer lifts, walkers, glucometers, nebulizers, oxygen, and other medical equipment
  • Provide opportunities for participation in home, program, and community events
  • Encourage and respect individual preferences and choices
  • Advocate for individuals served
  • Develop relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and significant others
  • Collaborate with Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers
  • Attend and participate in staff, training, and community meetings
  • Act as a positive role model
  • Assist with orientation of new staff
  • Adhere to Vinfen policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current C.N.A. certificate/license valid in Massachusetts
  • Prior experience as a C.N.A., preferably with people with a brain injury
  • Strong time management and writing skills
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Current, valid US driver's license held for at least 6 months; driving requirements also state at least one year of validity
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 2 weeks of employment
  • Ability to obtain MAP certification within 150 days of employment
  • Ability to obtain Safety Care certification within 90 days of employment
  • Must pass CORI, reference, national fingerprinting, CNA certification, driving record, and driver screening background checks
  • Adequate insurance and safe driving record required when using a personal vehicle
  • Knowledge of brain injury, CNA skills, documentation standards, personal computer applications, human/legal/civil rights and community resources, empowerment and self-advocacy techniques, and teaching modalities
  • Ability to communicate verbally and document nursing care accurately and effectively
  • Ability to work collaboratively, make independent judgments, balance competing priorities, and work confidentially
  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Ability to perform physically active duties, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, assisting with activities of daily living, and lifting at least 25 pounds using proper techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to meet required vision, hearing, speech, mobility, and physical activity demands
