About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct service and daily routine and episodic nursing aide care to individuals with brain injuries and complex health needs
- Assist with activities of daily living, including vital signs, laundry, toileting, showering, dressing, shaving, wound care, foot care, skin checks, and passive range of motion exercises
- Monitor individuals for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status
- Administer medications and treatments under Medication Administration Program (MAP) guidelines and Vinfen policies
- Provide for nutritional needs
- Transport, assist, and accompany individuals to medical, dental, and other appointments
- Maintain safe, clean, welcoming, respectful, and compliant living environments
- Document nursing care, medication administration, daily shift notes, incidents, and medication errors
- Keep medical records, confidential files, and other information current and accurate
- Communicate client status and care information to managers, colleagues, families, guardians, and other staff
- Safely use and maintain wheelchairs, walkers, Hoyer lifts, glucometers, nebulizers, oxygen, and other medical equipment
- Create opportunities for participation in home, program, and community events
- Encourage and respect individual preferences and choices; advocate for individuals served
- Develop relationships with individuals, families, guardians, and significant others
- Collaborate with Vinfen departments, outside agencies, and community providers
- Attend and participate in staff, training, and community meetings
- Act as a positive role model and assist with new staff orientation
- Adhere to Vinfen policies and procedures and perform related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Prior experience as a CNA, preferably with people with a brain injury
- A high school diploma or equivalent required
- CNA license in Massachusetts required
- CPR required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- MAP required within 150 days of hire
- Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
- May be asked to obtain CBIS certification (Certified Brain Injury Specialist)
- Valid driver's license presented at employment
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
- Adequate insurance and safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
- Ability to pass a driver’s screening background check
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, and lift at least 25 pounds using proper techniques or a two-person lift
- Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
- Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
- Skills and competencies of a CNA
- Knowledge of brain injury, human/legal/civil rights, community resources, empowerment and self-advocacy techniques, teaching modalities, and personal computer applications
- Ability to work collaboratively, communicate accurately, document nursing care, balance competing priorities, make independent judgments, and work confidentially
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, ethnic, disability, and gender issues
