About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide individual and group support to Clubhouse members
- Assess, develop, and implement Action Plans with members
- Serve as an advisor and promote self-advocacy, choice, risk-taking, and responsibility
- Communicate and reinforce Clubhouse culture and philosophy
- Develop, implement, and support Clubhouse policies and procedures
- Link members to community services and resources
- Provide generalist support across all Clubhouse work areas through teaching, coaching, facilitation, modeling, and reinforcement
- Provide meaningful work opportunities and encourage participation in work-area activities
- Plan, implement, and evaluate work-area services as needed
- Maintain program records according to Massachusetts Department of Mental Health documentation standards
- Support members with documenting Action Plan progress
- Attend trainings, conferences, staff meetings, supervision, and professional development activities
- Assist with orientation of new staff and members
- Maintain communication with supervisors and coworkers
- Help maintain the physical site and participate in Clubhouse events
- Provide coverage and assistance for onsite and offsite program activities and day-to-day requirements
- Provide specific expertise or leadership in one or more Clubhouse work areas
- Create and implement educational-needs assessment tools
- Develop and implement curricula for members’ educational Action Plan goals
- Use online courses and teaching tools
- Train and supervise program tutors
- Conduct group classes and individual tutoring
- Coordinate skills training and educational opportunities
- Establish affiliations with colleges, universities, ESOL programs, adult literacy programs, and vocational training programs
- Promote peer leadership and assist members pursuing Peer Specialist certification
- Provide occasional weekend, evening, and holiday coverage
Requirements
What you’ll need- One to three years experience in human services field required
- Advanced training, experience, or professional credentials required for Clubhouse Counselor II positions
- In some cases, experience may be substituted for academic training
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, rehabilitation counseling, special education, or related preferred
- Participatory, collaborative, teaching, and participatory planning skills
- Knowledge of Clubhouse standards and practices
- Knowledge of Psychiatric Rehabilitation principles, values, and practices
- Strong organizational and writing skills
- Knowledge of formal and informal assessment practices and documentation standards
- Knowledge and use of different learning and communication styles
- Knowledge of empowerment, self-advocacy, and peer support techniques
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to provide a positive role model for work and learning
- Knowledge of community resources, jobs, and educational opportunities
- Ability to work in a professional and confidential capacity
- Knowledge of personal computer applications and equipment
- Knowledge of reasonable accommodation law and advocacy techniques
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and problem-solving skills
- Valid US driver's license required; maintained for at least one year
- Adequate personal vehicle insurance and safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
- At least 21 years of age
- Ability to pass a driver's screening background check
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
- CPR certification required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid certification required within two weeks of hire
- Crisis Intervention/Staff Safety and Infectious Diseases training required within six months of employment
- Other training as assigned
- Health and Wellness positions require ServSafe training and exam within six months of hire
