About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct care, instruction, and skill building to adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges
  • Facilitate rehabilitative and meaningful activities for individuals and groups
  • Support development in self-care, self-direction, independent living, hygiene, toileting, first aid, communication, socialization, motor skills, art, music, and horticulture
  • Assist with case management responsibilities
  • Provide input for interdisciplinary team reviews
  • Assist in developing Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and maintain contact with families, funding sources, and ISP team members
  • Implement clinical and daily plans and recommend or implement program improvements
  • Maintain daily documentation, data collection, and progress notes
  • Ensure members remain actively engaged throughout the day and offer choices
  • Communicate with management regarding treatment and programs
  • Participate in case management and other teams
  • Support crisis management using Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Safety Care
  • Assist with staff training as needed
  • Maintain program area, supplies, and equipment
  • Advocate for persons served and support community integration through community, volunteer, reverse integration, and friendship opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • One year of relevant work experience/training
  • Previous experience working with similar population preferred
  • Strong time management, organizational and writing skills
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to become CPR and First Aid certified within 2 weeks of employment
  • Must be able to become MAP certified within 150 days of employment, if applicable
  • Must successfully pass CORI, SORI, reference, and national fingerprinting background checks
  • Knowledge of advocacy techniques
  • Knowledge of applied behavioral analysis with developmental disabilities population
  • Knowledge of different communication styles
  • Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques
  • Knowledge of formal and informal assessment practices
  • Knowledge of participatory planning techniques
  • Knowledge of physical personal management skills
  • Knowledge of independent living management skills
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Presentation, persuasive, and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to provide a positive role model
  • Driving requirement using a Vinfen van or personal vehicle
  • Personal vehicle users must maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record
  • Valid US driver's license required at employment; drivers must be at least 21, have held the license for at least one year, and pass a driver's screening background check
  • Ability to perform physically active duties, lift at least 25 pounds, and assist clients with daily living tasks
  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
  • CPR required within two weeks of hire
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
  • NET required
