About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct support to people with behavioral conditions and intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings
  • Develop, implement, and document treatment plans, ISP/IPs, and clinical programs
  • Provide training, rehabilitative interventions, behavioral interventions, monitoring, and support with ADLs
  • Assist with appointment scheduling, money management, grocery shopping, meal planning and cooking, household chores, and related activities
  • Support community integration through recreational and social activities, outings, community travel, shopping, and other activities
  • Provide transportation as necessary
  • Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor
  • Monitor residents’ funds as needed
  • Maintain records, collect behavioral and academic data, maintain progress notes, update electronic health records, and document incidents and routine activities
  • Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAC requirements, regulations, and company policy
  • Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties
  • Participate in mandated training and staff meetings; assist with orientation of new staff
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory bodies
  • Maintain program site safety and perform housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
  • Complete paperwork, logs, timesheets, and online data records
  • Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage when required
  • Serve as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during emergencies
  • Report to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission when required
  • Maintain certifications, respond to work emails, and follow Vinfen administrative policies
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a Residential Counselor role
  • Demonstrated track record as an exceptional performer and team-player in the Residential Counselor role
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • In some cases, experience may be substituted for academic training
  • Driving is required using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle
  • If using a personal vehicle, must possess and maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record subject to annual checks
  • Valid driver's license must be presented at the time of employment
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months
  • Must pass a driver's screening background check
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Ability to sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways
  • Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
  • Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
  • Required visual abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, plus ability to adjust focus
  • CPR required within two weeks of hire
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • MAC certification following Connecticut guidelines
  • Safety Care required within two weeks of hire
  • Knowledge and use of advocacy techniques
  • Knowledge of personal computer applications and equipment
  • Ability to multitask in a time-sensitive environment
