About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Implement Peer Support-oriented Treatment Plan interventions with Persons Served
- Share personal recovery experiences and provide support, education, and advocacy during service and life transitions
- Build empowering, non-directive, supportive relationships
- Link Persons Served to community services, recovery tools, support networks, and mutual-help groups
- Facilitate Peer Support and Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) groups
- Provide information and training on recovery and self-management strategies
- Promote engagement, healthcare and employment access, safe housing, community tenure, self-sufficiency, and successful service completion
- Support self-determination, treatment planning, care coordination, decision-making, and self-advocacy
- Provide problem-solving, skill training, side-by-side support, coping techniques, and daily living skills assistance
- Teach and consult with ACCS staff on recovery values, person-centered language, and recovery-oriented practices
- Apply recovery-oriented, person-centered, motivational interviewing, harm-reduction, Housing First, Stages of Change, WRAP, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches
- Visit all GLE and SIE settings regularly to provide Peer Support
- Participate in the Peer Specialist Community of Practice Workgroup
- Complete documentation in accordance with Certified Peer Specialist training standards and applicable Codes of Ethics
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Certified Peer Specialist credential required within 12 months of hire
- CPR required within the first two weeks of hire
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- Valid US driver's license required at time of employment
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
- Adequate insurance and a safe driving record if using a personal vehicle
- Must pass a driver's screening background check
- Willingness to use and share personal, practical experience of recovery process and wellness management
- Knowledge of Peer Support practices, ethical standards, person-centered and recovery-oriented approaches, engagement techniques, advocacy techniques, community resources, and legal, civil, and human rights
- Ability to create and maintain supportive relationships with persons served
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to perform physically active duties, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and assisting with daily living tasks
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
- Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
- Ability to communicate with persons served, staff, and external representatives
- Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus focus adjustment
