About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Promote engagement, hope, and full integration and functioning of Persons Served in the community
  • Implement Peer Support-oriented Treatment Plan interventions
  • Share personal recovery experiences and provide support, education, and advocacy during service and life transitions
  • Engage Persons Served in supportive relationships that promote empowerment and self-learning
  • Link Persons Served with community services, recovery networks, mutual-help groups, and support resources
  • Facilitate Peer Support and Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) groups
  • Provide information and training on recovery and self-management plans and strategies
  • Promote sustained engagement, healthcare access, employment services, safe housing, community tenure, and self-sufficiency
  • Support self-determination and participation in treatment, care coordination, and support-service planning
  • Help strengthen relationships with chosen family and friends and develop self-advocacy skills
  • Provide problem solving, skill training, side-by-side support, and coping/self-help strategies
  • Teach ACCS staff about recovery values, person-centered language, and perspectives of Persons Served
  • Apply recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally competent, strengths-based, harm-reduction, Housing First, Stages of Change, motivational interviewing, and WRAP approaches
  • Visit all GLE and SIE settings regularly to provide Peer Support
  • Participate in the Peer Specialist Community of Practice Workgroup
  • Complete documentation in accordance with Certified Peer Specialist training standards and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • In some cases, experience may be substituted for academic training
  • Driving is required using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle
  • Valid driver's license required at employment
  • Adequate insurance and safe driving record required when using a personal vehicle
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid US driver's license maintained for at least six months
  • Pass a driver's screening background check
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, and perform physically active work
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer
  • Ability to assist Persons Served with tasks of daily living
  • Ability to communicate with Persons Served, staff, and external representatives
  • CPR required within the first two weeks of hire
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • Certified Peer Specialist credential required within 12 months of hire
  • Knowledge of Peer Support practices, ethical standards, recovery-oriented and person-centered approaches, advocacy techniques, community resources, and applicable Codes of Ethics
  • Ability to create and maintain supportive, trusting relationships
  • Commitment to confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, ethnic, disability, and gender differences
