About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide individual and group support to clients in a residential or day program/clubhouse
  • Teach skills that enhance clients' independence and quality of life
  • Fulfill programmatic needs and routines in a professional role
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and documenting individual treatment support plans
  • Perform rehabilitative and behavioral interventions
  • Monitor clients, schedule appointments, monitor progress, and provide transportation
  • Model and support clients in becoming fully integrated into their communities
  • Assess clients' physical and emotional status and report changes to a supervisor
  • Ensure program site safety and maintenance
  • Oversee and participate in daily living and cleaning activities with clients
  • Comply with corporate and divisional policies and procedures, including safe work practices, workers' compensation, universal precautions, and exposure control
  • Complete communication logs, community membership logs, chore schedules, timesheets, and application forms
  • Perform crisis intervention as needed
  • Perform supervision and other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Prior experience working with people with disabilities is preferred
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Valid US driver's license must be presented at the time of employment
  • Drivers must be at least 21 years of age
  • Drivers must have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months
  • Drivers must pass a driver's screening background check
  • Drivers must maintain a safe driving record subject to annual checks
  • Personal vehicle users must possess and maintain adequate insurance
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer
  • Ability to sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways
  • Ability to assist clients with tasks of daily living
  • Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
  • Required close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, plus ability to adjust focus
  • Other trainings may be required
  • Knowledge and use of advocacy techniques, communication styles, empowerment and self-advocacy techniques, physical personal management skills, and crisis intervention techniques
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
  • Teaching skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
