About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct support to people with behavioral conditions and intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings.
- Develop, implement, and document treatment plans, ISP/IPs, and clinical programs.
- Provide rehabilitative and behavioral interventions, training, and support.
- Assist with activities of daily living, household chores, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, money management, appointment scheduling, and fire and safety compliance.
- Plan recreational and social activities, outings, community travel, and other activities that promote integration and quality of life.
- Provide transportation for shopping, medical appointments, and community activities.
- Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to supervisors.
- Monitor residents’ funds and maintain records, progress notes, behavior and academic data, communication logs, and electronic health records.
- Store, administer, document, and dispose of medications according to MAC requirements, regulations, and company policy.
- Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties.
- Participate in mandated training and staff meetings; assist with new-staff orientation.
- Maintain program-site safety and upkeep, including housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal.
- Complete paperwork, logs, timesheets, and online data records.
- Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage as needed.
- Serve as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies.
- Maintain certifications and comply with corporate, divisional, administrative, and regulatory policies.
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least one year of experience and/or training in a related function is preferred.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Valid driver's license required at employment; must be at least 21 years old, have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months, maintain adequate insurance if using a personal vehicle, and pass a driver's screening background check.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways.
- Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift.
- Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living.
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives.
- Required vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to operate a computer and office equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer.
- CPR required within two weeks of hire.
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire.
- MAC follows CT guidelines.
- Safety Care required within two weeks of hire.
- Knowledge and use of advocacy, communication, empowerment/self-advocacy, participatory planning, physical personal management, household management, and crisis intervention techniques.
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues.
- Participatory, collaborative, and teaching skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to learn and use Microsoft Outlook and an electronic health record.
