About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct support to people with behavioral conditions and intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings
- Develop, implement, and document treatment, including ISP/IPs and clinical programs
- Provide training, rehabilitative interventions, behavioral interventions, monitoring, and support for daily living activities
- Support appointment scheduling, money management, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, household chores, and related tasks
- Facilitate community integration through recreational and social activities, outings, community travel, church activities, decorating, and shopping
- Provide transportation as necessary
- Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor
- Monitor residents’ funds as needed
- Maintain records, collect behavior and academic data, write progress notes, and enter information into an electronic health record
- Document incidents, programs, and routine activities in communication logs
- Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAC requirements, regulations, and company policy
- Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties
- Participate in mandated training and staff meetings; assist with new-staff orientation
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory bodies
- Maintain program-site safety and maintenance, including housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
- Complete paperwork, logs, online data records, timesheets, and application forms
- Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage as required
- Function as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies
- Serve as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission
- Maintain certifications, respond to work emails, follow administrative policies, and perform other related duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least one year of experience and/or training in a related function is preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Driving is required using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle
- Personal vehicle users must maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record subject to annual checks
- Valid US driver's license required at employment
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months
- Must pass a driver's screening background check
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb
- Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
- Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer
- Ability to sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways
- Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
- Required close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, plus ability to adjust focus
- CPR required within two weeks of hire
- First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- MAC follows CT guidelines
- Safety Care required within two weeks of hire
- Knowledge and use of advocacy, communication, empowerment, self-advocacy, participatory planning, physical personal management, household management, and crisis intervention techniques
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
- Participatory, collaborative, and teaching skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to learn and use Microsoft Outlook and an electronic health record
