About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in small group residential settings or individual living arrangements.
- Develop, implement, and document treatment, including ISP/IPs and clinical programs.
- Provide rehabilitative and behavioral interventions and support with fire and safety regulations, appointment scheduling, money management, activities of daily living, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, and household chores.
- Perform hands-on program tasks to implement support plans.
- Support community integration through community-based services, recreational and social activities, outings, community travel, church activities, celebrations, and shopping.
- Provide transportation as necessary.
- Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor.
- Monitor residents’ funds as needed.
- Maintain records, collect behavior and academic data, write progress notes, enter information into an electronic health record, and document incidents and activities in communication logs.
- Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAC requirements, funding regulations, and company policy.
- Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties.
- Attend mandated training and staff meetings; assist with new-staff orientation; ensure regulatory compliance.
- Maintain program site safety and upkeep, including housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal.
- Complete paperwork, logs, and online data records.
- Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage as required.
- Act as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies.
- Maintain required certifications, respond to work emails, and follow Vinfen administrative policies.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least one year of experience and/or training in a related function is preferred.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Valid driver's license required at time of employment.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months.
- Must pass a driver's screening background check.
- Adequate insurance and a safe driving record required if using a personal vehicle.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways.
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift.
- Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer.
- Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living.
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives.
- Required close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, plus ability to adjust focus.
- CPR certification required within two weeks of hire.
- First Aid certification required within two weeks of hire.
- MAC follows Connecticut guidelines.
- Safety Care certification required within two weeks of hire.
- Knowledge and use of advocacy, communication, empowerment, self-advocacy, participatory planning, personal management, household management, and crisis intervention techniques.
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues.
- Participatory, collaborative, and teaching skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
