About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings
  • Develop, implement, and document treatment plans, ISP/IPs, and clinical programs
  • Provide training and support including rehabilitative and behavioral interventions, ADLs, money management, shopping, meal planning, cooking, and household chores
  • Support community integration through recreational, social, religious, shopping, travel, and other activities
  • Provide transportation for outings and appointments as necessary
  • Assess residents' physical and emotional status and report changes to the supervisor
  • Monitor residents' funds as needed
  • Maintain records, collect behavior and academic data, write progress notes, and enter information into an electronic health record
  • Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAC requirements, regulations, and company policy
  • Communicate with nurses, funding agencies, case managers, service providers, physicians, and other interested parties
  • Participate in mandated training and staff meetings and assist with new staff orientation
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements
  • Maintain program site safety and upkeep, including housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
  • Complete paperwork, logs, timesheets, and online data records
  • Maintain required staff-to-consumer ratios and provide last-minute coverage as required
  • Advocate for human rights and provide physical intervention or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies
  • Serve as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission
  • Review and respond to work emails and follow administrative policies
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least one year of experience and/or training in a related function is preferred
  • Driving is required using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle
  • Personal vehicle users must possess and maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record
  • Valid US driver's license required at employment
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months
  • Must pass a driver's screening background check
  • CPR required within two weeks of hire
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • MAC follows CT guidelines
  • Safety Care required within two weeks of hire
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Ability to assist clients with activities of daily living
  • Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
  • Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Knowledge of advocacy, communication, empowerment, self-advocacy, participatory planning, physical personal management, household management, and crisis intervention techniques
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
