About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Create and maintain a safe and welcoming culture in a Safe Haven transitional housing program
- Maintain a low-demand, no/low-barrier philosophy
- Develop trusting relationships and engage residents around barriers to their goals
- Encourage collaboration, mutual support, respect, and social interaction
- Help residents assess needs and develop person-centered Individualized Action Plans
- Offer support and treatment services without requiring acceptance
- Provide skills training, support, transportation, medication coaching, and assistance with daily living
- Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to the Program Director
- Maintain resident records and complete incident documentation
- Refer residents to mental health, substance use, healthcare, benefits, housing, legal, peer support, education, and job-training services
- Provide information to the Department of Mental Health about Safe Haven services
- Orient new staff and residents; participate in mandated training and staff meetings
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and clean residence, including housekeeping, cooking, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
- Support compliance with Vinfen policies, regulations, safe work practices, workers’ compensation, universal precautions, and exposure controls
- Provide physical intervention and/or first aid during medical emergencies
- Serve as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission when necessary
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior Human Services experience preferred
- Strong time management and writing skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Current, valid US driver's license held for at least 6 months
- Must be able to become CPR and First Aid certified within 2 weeks of employment
- Must pass CORI, reference, multi-state background, and driving record checks
- One or more years of experience and/or training in a related field preferred
- Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation values and principles
- Knowledge of engagement, empowerment, and advocacy techniques
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally competent services
- Knowledge of community resources, housing rights and subsidies, employment services, medications, safety protocols, and crisis intervention
- Ability to establish supportive relationships and use participatory, collaborative, and teaching skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to perform physically active duties, lift at least 25 pounds, assist clients with daily living, and operate office equipment
- CPR and First Aid required within two weeks of hire
- Psychiatric Rehabilitation Division New Employee Training courses required
- MAP Crisis Intervention/Staff Safety and Infectious Diseases training required within six months of hire
- Other trainings as assigned
