About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Drive loosely defined designs and problems through scope definition and shipped features
Lead technical and architectural decisions and build team alignment
Build and maintain customer-facing features across APIs, backend services, and data models
Design and evolve database schemas and data models for the client-side application
Develop scalable and secure APIs
Partner with Product, UX, and Data to translate user needs into technical solutions
Contribute to planning, design, and code reviews
Debug production issues and perform root-cause analysis
Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability for backend services
Mentor teammates and improve engineering effectiveness
Use AI-assisted tools to support development workflows

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years of professional software development experience
BS in Computer Science or Software Engineering
Experience independently defining solutions for ambiguous problems
Strong backend experience with Node.js
Strong API design experience, including API security
Experience with relational databases and schema design, ideally PostgreSQL and SQL
Ability to work across API and data layers
Strong product mindset
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Experience with metrics, monitoring, and alerting tools such as Grafana, Kibana, and ElastAlert
Clear communication and ability to articulate technical positions, build consensus, and lead technical decisions
Additional backend experience in Python or Java is a plus
Familiarity with modern AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code is a plus
