About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deliver excellent field engineering service across Scottish Power's strategic telecommunications network throughout Scotland, including interfaces with SSEN and National Grid telecommunications networks
  • Provide professional field engineering support across service delivery and assurance activities
  • Participate in a 24/7/365 support and maintenance service
  • Respond to network issues and carry out planned maintenance activities
  • Support implementation of projects and operational activities
  • Ensure quality, safety, and customer experience standards are maintained
  • Deliver projects within agreed timelines, budgets, quality standards, and health and safety requirements
  • Complete project documentation accurately and on time
  • Support Project Engineers and wider delivery teams
  • Monitor project progress and contribute ideas and solutions
  • Identify issues, dependencies, and risks, escalating and helping resolve them
  • Communicate proactively with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Assist with technical, testing, and quality activities
  • Maintain accurate project records and complete administrative tasks
  • Collaborate across teams to drive positive customer outcomes and continuous improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience in telecommunications, networking, field engineering, maintenance, commissioning, or related technical environments
  • Knowledge of IP networking technologies, including WAN, LAN, routing, switching, and MPLS, or willingness to develop expertise in these areas
  • Experience supporting, installing, or maintaining telecommunications infrastructure, such as SDH, PDH, Comtel, Microwave Radio, or similar technologies
  • Familiarity with networking solutions and equipment, including Cisco, Alcatel, or comparable platforms
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Effective communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and other digital collaboration tools
  • Commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement, and excellent customer outcomes
  • Availability to participate in a 24/7/365 support and maintenance service
  • Successful completion of background checks, including criminal (DBS) and financial checks
  • Ability to obtain Scottish Power work authorisations where required
