Key responsibilities & impact
  • Grow Vogelsang’s municipal market presence across the Western Territory
  • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve bookings, revenue, and gross-margin objectives
  • Prospect for new business with wastewater plants, utilities, contractors, public works departments, and municipal facilities
  • Conduct in-person visits with municipal decision-makers
  • Build relationships with consulting engineering firms and obtain product specifications
  • Manage, develop, recruit, and hold channel partners accountable
  • Conduct joint sales calls and establish follow-up actions
  • Maintain engagement with municipal end users and engineering firms throughout the sales process
  • Identify applications for pumps, grinders, macerators, and process and solids-handling equipment
  • Own projects from planning and specification through quotation, bidding, negotiation, procurement, and order closure
  • Conduct technical consultations, plant visits, presentations, demonstrations, and lunch-and-learn programs
  • Develop installed-base opportunities for replacement equipment, repairs, service, and spare parts
  • Collaborate with engineering, applications, customer service, and product-management teams
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly territory-development and travel plans
  • Maintain account, opportunity, forecast, order-date, follow-up, and activity records in the CRM
  • Plan business travel and activities in Microsoft Outlook Calendar
  • Attend relevant water and wastewater trade shows, conferences, and association meetings
  • Complete first-year product, application, competitive, and sales-process training
  • Build a qualified pipeline and generate trials, demonstrations, specifications, and competitive conversions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must reside in California, preferably, or in Denver, Phoenix, Portland, or Seattle, with convenient access to a major airport
  • Approximately two weeks traveling outside the home area, followed by one week working from the home office and conducting local visits; schedule may vary
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Civil, Process, Water Resources, or another relevant engineering discipline
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in technical sales, business development, applications engineering, or technical sales support involving municipal wastewater process equipment or related technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop customer relationships, prospect for new business, secure meetings, create opportunities, or contribute to territory/account growth
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working understanding of pumping systems, fluid dynamics, municipal wastewater processes, and equipment troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication, presentation, relationship-building, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently from a home office while meeting activity and performance expectations
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel by automobile and commercial airline
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle while towing a demonstration trailer, subject to applicable licensing, training, and safety requirements
  • Ability and willingness to access municipal wastewater facilities and comply with safety requirements
  • Proficient and disciplined use of Microsoft Outlook Calendar is mandatory
  • Consistent use of the company CRM, preferably Salesforce, is mandatory
  • Experience in listed municipal equipment, pumps, rotating equipment, controls, SCADA, solids handling, dewatering, infrastructure, environmental services, applications engineering, or related areas preferred but not required
