About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Explain program rules and regulations to residents and facilitate observance
- Coordinate meal preparation/service, bed and sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and other daily routines
- Provide awake shift coverage and maintain an engaging presence and ground security
- Conduct regular wellness, safety, sanitation, and security checks
- Maintain daily reports, shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports
- Perform housekeeping, laundry, cleaning, maintenance, and room/dorm preparation tasks
- Respond to participant questions and concerns
- Perform clerical duties including answering telephones, email correspondence, computer applications, recording messages, sorting mail, and filing
- Manage, coordinate, inventory, store, and distribute participant property
- Maintain linen documentation, inventory control, restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, equipment, and supplies
- De-escalate crises and respond appropriately to emergencies
- Communicate with program staff, managers, service providers, and county/state/city representatives
- Assist with training and development of new staff and support program development
- Assist participants in the boutique and manage clothing, shoes, personal items, donations, and inventory
- Support inclement-weather overflow and warming-center operations
- Support participant development and communicate pertinent issues to VOA and Washoe County case management staff
- Attend staff meetings and assigned training and complete required certifications
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
- Ability to provide services to participants without ethnic or social prejudices
- General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, families in crisis, young adults, minorities, and persons with disabilities
- Ability to utilize a range of interventions for participants with varying needs and levels of functioning
- Flexibility to work irregular hours
- Ability to function as a team member
- Computer skills
- CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment, with re-certification as necessary
- Must undergo a criminal background check
- Teamwork skills

- Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and assist residents and staff in emergency situations

- Analytical and decision-making ability
- Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds
- Ability to safely maneuver the weight distribution of a client in an emergency situation

- Ability to kneel occasionally

- Ability to maneuver quickly in emergency situations
