About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Explain program rules and regulations to residents and facilitate observance
  • Coordinate meals, bed/sleeping assignments, showers, laundry, and daily routines
  • Provide awake overnight shift coverage and maintain an engaging presence and ground security
  • Conduct wellness, safety, sanitation, and hourly security checks
  • Maintain daily reports, shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports
  • Perform housekeeping, laundry, cleaning, room preparation, and maintenance tasks
  • Respond to participant questions and concerns
  • Perform clerical duties including telephone, email, computer applications, message recording, mail sorting, and filing
  • Coordinate, inventory, store, and distribute participant property
  • Maintain linen documentation, inventory, restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, equipment, and supplies
  • De-escalate crises and respond appropriately to emergencies
  • Communicate with program staff, managers, service providers, and county/state/city representatives
  • Assist with training and development of staff and identify training needs
  • Assist participants in the boutique, including clothing selection, donation organization, restocking, and distribution documentation
  • Support inclement-weather overflow and warming-center operations
  • Support participant development plans and notify staff of pertinent issues
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned training and complete required certifications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
  • Ability to provide services to participants without ethnic or social prejudices
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, families in crisis, young adults, minorities, and persons with disabilities
  • Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with participants with varying needs and levels of functioning
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Computer skills
  • CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment, with re-certification as necessary
  • Must undergo a criminal background check
  • Teamwork skills

  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and assist residents and staff in emergency situations

  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds
