About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Calculate and submit bi-weekly payroll
- Reconcile deductions and allocate benefits
- Process garnishments and vacation and sick accruals
- Process federal and California and Nevada payroll taxes
- Prepare manual payroll checks
- Fund payroll requirements and process Positive Pay
- Communicate with supervisors, staff, and administrators regarding payroll items
- Process housing allowances, mileage, travel, and other reimbursements
- Prepare and submit monthly Workers Compensation reports
- Work with Staff Accountants on payroll reclassifications
- Reconcile benefit liabilities and payments
- Send payroll reports to Program Directors
- Scan and retain documents on the server in a timely manner
- Assist with monitoring visits
- Work with Program Directors on timecards, time off, and accruals
- Provide 990 data support
- Back up the Accounts Payable Accountant
- Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll taxes and reporting
- Provide audit support as necessary
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, or five years of combined education and accounting/payroll experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree requirement
- Knowledge and recent experience with computerized accounting systems
- Experience with Excel spreadsheets
- Knowledge of double-entry accounting
- Experience with ADP/Workforce Now HRIS
- Willingness to accept responsibility and perform repetitive and routine work
- Sound judgment, discretion, and tact to handle confidential information
- Ability to provide services without ethnic or social prejudices
- Flexibility to work occasional overtime
- Willingness to function as a team member
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the insurance carrier’s guidelines
- Computer data input and Excel skills
- Ten-key calculator by touch and strong math ability
- Teamwork, oral and written communication, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Ability to lift and move up to 15 pounds and lift boxes of files
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit frequently
- Ability to kneel occasionally
