About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Explain program rules and regulations to residents and facilitate participant observance
  • Coordinate meal preparation and service, bed/sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and other daily routines
  • Provide awake shift coverage and maintain an engaging presence on the grounds
  • Conduct regular wellness, safety, sanitation, security, and observation checks
  • Maintain daily reports, shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports
  • Perform housekeeping, laundry, cleaning, maintenance, and room/dorm preparation tasks
  • Respond to participant questions and concerns
  • Perform clerical duties including answering telephone, handling email correspondence, using computer applications, recording messages, sorting mail, and filing
  • Coordinate, inventory, store, and distribute participant property
  • Maintain linen documentation and inventory control; assist with linen replacements
  • Monitor restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • De-escalate crises and respond appropriately to emergencies
  • Notify management of workflow problems and resource needs
  • Communicate with on-site staff, managers, service providers, and external county/state/city representatives
  • Assist with training and development of new staff
  • Maintain knowledge of fire, safety, health, and sanitation standards
  • Assist participants in the boutique by selecting clothing and personal items, organizing donations, restocking, and documenting distributions
  • Support inclement-weather overflow and warming-center operations
  • Support participant development plans and notify VOA and Washoe County case management staff of pertinent issues
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned training; complete required certifications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
  • Ability to provide services without ethnic or social prejudices
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, families in crisis, young adults, minorities, and persons with disabilities
  • Ability to utilize a range of interventions for participants with varying needs and levels of functioning
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Computer skills
  • CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment, with re-certification as necessary
  • Must undergo a criminal background check
  • Teamwork skills

  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and assist residents and staff in emergency situations

  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to safely maneuver the weight distribution of a client in an emergency situation
