About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide quality, compassionate, non-judgmental service to program participants
  • Explain program rules and regulations and facilitate residents’ observance
  • Coordinate meals, bed/sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and daily routines
  • Provide awake overnight shift coverage and maintain grounds security
  • Conduct hourly safety and security checks
  • De-escalate and respond to crises, providing emergency assistance as needed
  • Maintain daily reports, shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks and prepare rooms for new residents
  • Respond to client questions and perform clerical duties, including answering phones and filing
  • Maintain clear communication with residents and staff
  • Support VOA staff in implementing resident assistance plans
  • Role model positive behavior for clients
  • Document client concerns and infractions affecting program security
  • Monitor program equipment and supply inventory and restock as needed
  • Notify management of workflow problems and resource needs
  • Communicate with on-site staff, Program Manager, service providers, and government program representatives
  • Adhere to ethical standards, program philosophy, confidentiality laws, staffing schedules, and safety requirements
  • Assist with orientation and training of new employees
  • Identify ongoing training needs and support quality operations
  • Maintain working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards
  • Attend staff meetings and training and complete required certifications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
  • Ability to provide services to clients without ethnic or social prejudices
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, minorities, and people with disabilities
  • Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with clients with varying needs and levels of functioning
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours
  • Willingness to function as a team member
  • Computer skills
  • Must pass all required background clearances in accordance with agency, County, State, and federal standards
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances
