About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical leadership and vision for the design and development of highly concurrent, distributed backend systems
- Drive and own significant architectural decisions, ensuring scalability, reliability and maintainability across the platform
- Lead performance optimisation initiatives and resolve the most complex system-level challenges
- Set the standard for testing practices, including Unit, Integration and Smoke tests, enabling fully automated promotion of code to production
- Define, evolve and enforce coding standards and engineering best practices across the team
- Act as a technical mentor and leader, supporting the growth of engineers at all levels
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business goals
- Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota
Requirements
What you’ll need- Extensive programming experience in Go (Golang) or deep expertise in JVM technologies (Java/Spring Boot) with a strong commitment to adopting Go
- Extensive, proven experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade systems at scale
- Deep expertise in highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems
- Extensive experience leading and owning architectural decisions at team and cross-team level
- Prior experience as a Team Lead or Tech Lead, with a track record of mentoring and growing engineering talent
- Experience with containerised applications and cloud-native infrastructure
- Expert-level performance profiling and optimisation skills
- Deep experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis)
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Nice to have: Deep hands-on experience with AWS (SQS, SNS, DynamoDB), Kafka, Kubernetes or Terraform
- Nice to have: Experience driving Continuous Delivery practices in cloud environments
- Nice to have: General understanding of the telecommunications industry
