About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Define and drive the long-term technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for data services teams
Lead the design and evolution of highly available, scalable, secure, and operationally efficient NoSQL platforms
Diagnose and resolve complex production issues involving performance, queries, replication, availability, capacity, and operations
Build and influence tooling, automation, and platform capabilities for reliability, performance, observability, developer productivity, and operational simplicity
Partner with application engineering teams on database architectures for distributed systems and high-throughput workloads
Establish technical standards, best practices, reference architectures, and operational patterns
Influence senior engineering leaders, architects, product teams, and business stakeholders on strategy, trade-offs, risks, and execution
Mentor principal and senior engineers and raise technical standards across database engineering, distributed systems, performance engineering, and production operations

Requirements

What you’ll need

12+ years of software engineering, infrastructure engineering, or database engineering experience, with significant depth in database systems
Deep hands-on expertise in any database system at scale, preferably NoSQL databases with strong understanding of database internals
Proven experience debugging and operating complex database deployments in production, including high-availability, high-throughput, and low-latency environments
Experience designing and operating database platforms with reliability, availability, backup and restore, disaster recovery, observability, security, and compliance characteristics
Strong systems engineering background covering distributed systems, concurrency, networking, storage, failure modes, and capacity planning
Experience building automation, tooling, or platform capabilities around open-source or commercial database systems
Ability to define technical strategy, drive architecture across teams, and influence large-scale engineering direction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong track record of mentoring engineers, reviewing architecture, and raising engineering standards
Strong programming experience in Java, Python, C++, Go, or other systems/platform languages
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience; or 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
