About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the experimentation and feature flag engineering team responsible for the UI and control plane for multiple platform applications
- Engage deeply with the codebase through code reviews, design reviews, architectural decisions, and setting the technical bar
- Own the roadmap, planning cycles, and people development agenda
- Lead and participate in code and design reviews while upholding standards for code quality, maintainability, and security
- Develop and present technical design proposals
- Drive adoption of design patterns and system design principles
- Improve build pipelines, test coverage, observability, and incident response practices
- Translate business goals into engineering initiatives with Product Managers and stakeholders
- Co-own the UX roadmap with the UX team
- Lead estimation, sequencing, capacity planning, and dependency management during annual and quarterly planning
- Drive initiatives from requirements and design through delivery, rollout, and support
- Manage, mentor, and grow engineers across varying experience levels
- Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations
- Build an inclusive, collaborative, and psychologically safe team culture
- Partner with recruiting to attract and retain engineering talent
- Serve as an escalation point for on-call incidents
- Improve SLOs, alerting, and runbooks
- Drive retrospectives and continuous improvement
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; OR 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
- 2 years’ supervisory experience
- Strong foundational understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript, including language internals, async patterns, and ecosystem tooling
- Solid grasp of CSS, accessibility standards, and web fundamentals, including browser rendering, performance, and security
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React preferred) and scalable component and design systems
- Strong understanding of backend systems and services, microservices architecture, RESTful and event-driven APIs
- Proficiency with Java and Spring Boot
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query optimization, and operational considerations
- Exposure to Azure or GCP, including compute, storage, networking, and managed services
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong command of design patterns and system design
- Experience writing and reviewing Architecture Decision Records or equivalent design artifacts
- Proven track record of managing and growing engineering teams of 6–15 engineers
- Strong communication skills
- Experience operating in an agile delivery model with cross-functional squads
- Ability to set clear direction in fast-moving environments and influence without authority
