About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead platform-level execution for highly available, distributed payment systems aligned with business priorities and roadmap milestones
- Drive architecture for payment processing, transaction routing, authorization, retries, reversals, fallback, and resiliency
- Oversee cloud infrastructure, shared tooling, DevOps, CI/CD, automation, telemetry, and production readiness across multiple teams
- Partner with product, architecture, security, operations, and payment stakeholders to deliver complex initiatives while meeting compliance and certification requirements
- Guide architectural decisions for scalability, fault tolerance, performance, security, and cost optimization
- Mentor engineers, strengthen technical ownership, lead operational improvements, and establish metrics for availability, transaction success, latency, recovery, and platform health
- Develop engineering talent and manage cross-functional stakeholder relationships
- Ensure payment solutions meet scalability, security, compliance, performance, and reliability expectations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; OR 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
- 2 years’ supervisory experience
- Proven engineering leadership experience delivering large-scale, highly available distributed platforms in payments, fintech, retail, or transaction-intensive environments
- Strong understanding of the payment lifecycle, including authorization, capture, reversal, refund, settlement, reconciliation, and exception handling
- Experience with payment routing, orchestration, failover, idempotency, gateways, processors, acquirers, issuers, card networks, tokenization, and PCI DSS
- Deep knowledge of cloud-native architecture, microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence
- Demonstrated ability to guide architecture, manage production incidents, optimize cloud costs, mentor engineers, and enforce security and quality standards
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across product, business, compliance, security, operations, and external payment partners in complex, regulated environments
- Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area
- Preferred: Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices
