About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Deploy, configure, and maintain high-performance on-premises SQL Server instances and Azure SQL Cloud ecosystems
- Monitor health and optimize performance across hybrid environments
- Diagnose and resolve complex engine bottlenecks
- Optimize slow-running T-SQL queries, tune indexes, and analyze execution plans
- Design and maintain business continuity strategies using Always On Availability Groups, Azure Geo-Replication, Failover Groups, and automated backup/restore validation
- Plan and execute zero-downtime migrations from on-premises SQL Servers to Azure SQL platforms using Azure Database Migration Service
- Enforce enterprise data security using Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) integration, Row-Level Security, Data Masking, and Always Encrypted
- Automate database deployments and routine maintenance using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and SQL Server Agent jobs
- Work with DevOps engineers and software developers to review database schemas and optimize application performance
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of experience managing Microsoft SQL Server (2016 through 2022+)
- 3+ years of production experience administering Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instances
- Expert-level proficiency in Transact-SQL (T-SQL)
- Hands-on experience writing complex PowerShell or Azure CLI scripts
- Understanding of Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC), Azure VNets, ExpressRoute, and cloud storage scaling
- Proven capability to perform rapid root-cause analysis during high-pressure production incidents
- Experience working with DevOps engineers and software developers to review database schemas and optimize application performance
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; OR 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
