About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee installation and commissioning of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics
- Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues across commercial and industrial systems
- Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs
- Manage rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units
- Submit expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, and maintenance logs, including before-and-after photos
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes
- Reclaim ozone-depleting refrigerants
- Lead HVAC/R field teams, coordinate assignments, mentor technicians, and manage escalated service issues
- Deliver hands-on training on safety, control troubleshooting, and system operations
- Evaluate technician skill sets and provide feedback to senior leadership
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to business-critical incidents
- Manage refrigerant levels, parts inventory, vendor relationships, and external service-provider contracts
- Coordinate service calls and regional/market workloads
- Support HVAC/R business solutions and lead special projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and refine processes
- Maintain, operate, and coordinate required maintenance for company vehicles
- Verify vehicle documentation, insurance, fuel, water, brakes, signals, and lights
- Lead and participate in teams, coordinate work assignments, and support timelines and work quality
- Develop, communicate, and implement processes and practices
- Promote compliance with company policies, ethics, and integrity standards
- Support inclusion, teamwork, mentoring, continuous improvement, and customer-focused results
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration; or 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling
- HVAC-R/Mechanical Journeyman where required
- 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area, or 2 years’ Walmart store experience
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report
- Commercial driving record with no DUI, DWI, or OUI convictions within the last five years
- No more than two moving violations in the last three years
- No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years
- No serious traffic violations under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations in the last three years
