About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collaborate with Refrigeration and HVAC technicians across designated sites or markets
- Manage workload, order parts, communicate with clients, and complete assigned tasks
- Oversee installation and commissioning of HVAC/R systems, ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics
- Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues
- Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs
- Manage rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units
- Use heavy machinery
- Submit expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, maintenance logs, and detailed before-and-after work-order notes
- Supervise compliance with OSHA standards and EPA refrigerant-handling protocols
- Conduct inspections and repairs according to federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes
- Reclaim ozone-depleting refrigerants and maintain environmental compliance
- Lead field teams, coordinate assignments, mentor technicians, and manage escalated service issues
- Provide on-the-job and hands-on training in safety, control troubleshooting, and system operations
- Evaluate technician skill sets and provide feedback to senior leadership
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to business-critical incidents
- Manage refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships
- Track and order HVAC/R parts and ensure contract compliance
- Coordinate service calls and regional/market workloads
- Support HVAC/R business solutions and organizational changes
- Lead special projects, evaluate technologies, and recommend improvements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine processes
- Maintain, transport, and arrange required maintenance for company vehicles
- Safely operate motor vehicles and verify required documentation and condition
- Submit maintenance invoices and verify vehicle insurance
- Wear company uniform and badge according to policy
- Lead and participate in teams while coordinating work assignments and meeting timelines and quality standards
- Develop and implement processes and practices with managers, coworkers, customers, and business partners
- Support company policies, ethics, integrity, inclusion, customer service, continuous improvement, and Walmart values
Requirements
What you’ll need- Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration
- Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling
- HVAC-R/Mechanical Journeyman where required
- 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area, or 2 years’ Walmart store experience
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report
- Commercial driving record with no DUI, DWI, or OUI convictions within the last five years
- Commercial driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years
- No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three years
- No serious traffic violations under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations within the last three years
- Ability to work independently and seek assistance for repairs requiring two or more associates
- Availability for an on-call rotation
- Extensive experience with DX, CO2, and Glycol parallel rack refrigeration in a supermarket setting
