About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Drive architecture, design, implementation, and operational readiness of platform capabilities from concept to production
- Build customer-facing platform capabilities for self-service onboarding, simplified configuration, and seamless deployment
- Automate and enhance integrations for enterprise data platforms
- Develop reusable platform components, frameworks, and APIs
- Design fault-tolerant, low-latency flows for large-scale production workloads
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, customer teams, and partner engineering organisations
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, operational excellence initiatives, and mentoring junior engineers
- Improve scalability, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency
- Diagnose complex production issues involving distributed systems, streaming workloads, checkpointing, backpressure, data skew, and infrastructure dependencies
- Drive best practices for testing, automation, deployment, monitoring, and production readiness
- Own production services, including on-call support, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous reliability improvements
- Drive execution of business plans and projects, remove performance barriers, measure progress, and develop contingency plans
- Supervise and develop associates through selection, training, mentoring, delegation, performance expectations, evaluations, recognition, and coaching
- Promote company policies, procedures, mission, values, ethics, compliance, and the Open Door Policy
- Evaluate plans and initiatives, consult stakeholders, improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and support community outreach events
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale distributed systems
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related area
- Strong programming experience in Java and ReactJS
- Experience with distributed stream processing frameworks
- Experience with relational databases such as MSSQL
- Experience with non-relational databases such as Cassandra
- Experience with messaging systems such as Apache Kafka
- Strong understanding of fault tolerance, checkpointing, partitioning strategies, backpressure, state management, and high availability
- Experience designing cloud-native microservices and REST APIs
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms
- Experience building highly available production systems with observability using metrics, dashboards, logging, and alerting
- Knowledge of software design patterns, concurrent programming, and scalable system design
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure automation
- Strong debugging and performance tuning skills for distributed applications
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multiple engineering organisations and customer teams
- Demonstrated ownership of projects from design through production rollout
- Minimum qualification alternative: Bachelor’s degree in a specified field and 4 years’ software engineering experience, or 6 years’ software engineering experience
- Preferred: Master’s degree in a specified field and 2 years’ software engineering experience
- Nice to have: enterprise data integration or ETL platforms, Presto, Kafka, GCS, Trino, SDKs, open-source projects, developer platforms, or self-service infrastructure
