About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Code, unit test, build, and document high-performance, scalable applications for Walmart International customers
  • Drive design, development, implementation, and documentation
  • Collaborate with Walmart engineering teams across geographies and contribute to the tech community
  • Partner with Product Management and Business to set priorities and deliver products
  • Design and build enhanced processes and technical solutions supporting strategic initiatives
  • Work with architects and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions meeting quality, cost, and delivery objectives
  • Create high-level and low-level designs, lead design discussions, and make technical decisions
  • Define and execute technical roadmaps for one or more products
  • Drive cloud-native architecture, modernization, and optimization
  • Lead data engineering initiatives involving pipelines, integrations, and real-time processing
  • Champion engineering excellence through governance, quality, automation, observability, and technical debt reduction
  • Drive operational excellence through reliability engineering, automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement
  • Identify and implement cloud cost optimization opportunities
  • Promote an AI-first engineering mindset
  • Mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across engineering, product, and architecture teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
  • Strong expertise in Java, Kafka, Microservices, Cloud Technologies (Azure/GCP), Data Engineering, Distributed Systems, and Enterprise Architecture
  • Proven experience leading large-scale modernization and transformation initiatives
  • Experience with scalable, resilient solutions using Java, Microservices Architecture, and Kafka-based Event-Driven Systems
  • Experience with Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience leading data engineering initiatives, including data pipelines, integrations, and real-time processing solutions
  • Experience with architecture governance, code quality, automation, observability, and technical debt reduction
  • Experience with reliability engineering, proactive monitoring, continuous improvement, and cloud cost optimization
  • Ability to leverage AI-enabled tools and capabilities
  • Ability to mentor engineers and provide cross-functional technical leadership
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant field and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area
