About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Architect, design, and develop sophisticated, highly scalable, ultra-high-performing Java-based backend systems
Write and review designs and code with frequent commits, leveraging AI/ML/GenAI frameworks
Use modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and public/hybrid clouds to build globally distributed solutions
Lead complex debugging and performance tuning involving JVM, memory management, and garbage collection
Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to define technical roadmaps, share innovations, and advance scale and performance
Mentor engineers, elevate team capabilities, and foster technical excellence and independent execution
Present innovative architectural designs and strategic technical solutions to organizational groups and leadership
Build platforms and services supporting Walmart Marketplace, third-party sellers, eCommerce, fulfillment, and inventory operations

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; alternatively, 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
Engineering Degree (B.E/BTech/MTech/MS) in Computer Science or related field
10+ years of deep, hands-on experience in software engineering
Expert-level proficiency in modern Java (Java 11/17+), JVM internals, J2EE, multi-threading, concurrency, and functional programming
Extensive experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems
Deep understanding of scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability
Strong command over distributed databases (NoSQL/SQL), asynchronous messaging, and event-driven architectures such as Kafka
Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, microservices architecture, and containerization
Profound understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms
Experience with SDLC best practices, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and operations
Influential communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
