About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks
  • Design and build highly scalable backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot
  • Architect and implement real-time event-driven systems using Apache Kafka
  • Develop and optimize large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines using Apache Spark
  • Drive architecture decisions for scalability, resiliency, observability, and cost efficiency
  • Lead system design reviews and define engineering best practices for distributed systems
  • Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Platform, and Infrastructure teams
  • Optimize system performance through partitioning, caching, asynchronous processing, and concurrency tuning
  • Mentor engineers and act as a technical multiplier across multiple teams
  • Participate in production incident reviews and drive long-term platform reliability improvements
  • Support Walmart Marketplace Engineering platforms for seller lifecycle management, customer interactions, marketplace risk detection, and seller/customer experiences

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation
  • Strong experience in software development lifecycle management, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance
  • Proficiency in platform engineering, infrastructure tooling, and AI/ML integration
  • Experience with JavaScript, Python, Java, and C++
  • Ability to conduct system design reviews and apply software design patterns
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions
  • Skills in data-driven decision making, debugging, and continuous development
  • Preferred: knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices
