About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical leadership for a high-performing team of 10 to 20 engineers
- Guide architectural decisions and best practices for scalable applications
- Drive software design, development, implementation, testing, deployment, and documentation
- Build, test, and deploy solutions at scale impacting Walmart associates worldwide
- Mentor engineers in scalable, resilient, robust cloud-based solutions
- Interact with Walmart engineering teams across geographies and contribute to the tech community
- Collaborate with Product Management and Business to set priorities and deliver products
- Design and build enhanced processes and technical solutions supporting strategic initiatives
- Work with Architects and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions meeting Quality, Cost, and Delivery objectives
- Work with senior leadership to define product roadmaps
- Participate in hiring and building high-performing agile teams
- Gather requirements from business owners and technical teams in India and globally
- Process and reconcile supplier merchandise against invoices to support timely and accurate payments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Computer Science, engineering, or related field, with minimum 10+ years of experience in software design, development and automated deployments
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area; OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
- Experience delivering highly scalable large-scale data processing Java applications
- Strong high- and low-level system design skills
- Experience designing data-intensive applications in open stack
- Understanding of CS fundamentals, microservices, data structures, algorithms, and problem solving
- Experience with CI/CD development environments/tools including Git, Maven, and Jenkins
- Experience writing modular and testable code and unit, functional, and integration tests using JUnit, Mockito, and Mock MVC
- Hands-on experience building Java-based backend systems and cloud-based solutions
- Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Spark
- Experience with microservices architecture, distributed concepts, design principles, design patterns, and cloud-native development
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, concurrency, garbage collection, RESTful services, data caching services, and ORM tools
- Experience with relational databases and complex OLAP, OLTP, and SQL queries
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as Cosmos DB
- Experience with caching technologies such as Redis and Memcached
- Experience with event-based systems such as Kafka
- Experience with monitoring and alert tools such as Prometheus and Splunk
- Experience with debugging and troubleshooting
- Exposure to Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of public cloud platforms such as Azure and GCP is an added advantage
- Understanding of mainframe databases is an added advantage
- Preferred: Master’s degree and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area
- Good to have Python, GenAI/RAG/LLM APIs, agentic system design, responsible AI, inference optimization, and AI-assisted development experience
