About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze cost data, unit prices, general conditions, general requirements costs, and building-system estimating information
- Prepare, verify, organize, and coordinate Request for Quote documents and schedules
- Use schedule information to estimate General Contractor and other schedule-dependent items
- Input data into RS Means estimating software
- Perform archive filing and gather historical cost data
- Provide direction and training to new Estimators
- Evaluate GC estimates, bids, and GMPs for completeness, accuracy, and support by recent pricing data
- Use Building Information Models (BIM) for quantity take-off and visualization where possible
- Evaluate subcontractor input and identify scope gaps and overlaps
- Verify pricing in estimates and GMPs using recent pricing data, subcontractor bids, or budgets
- Develop, lead, or support assembly and verification of estimates and bid documents submitted to owners
- Participate in estimate and GMP review meetings with architects, engineers, and owners
- Incorporate comments and feedback into revised estimates or GMPs
- Prepare comparison analyses against previous estimates or projects and explain variances to stakeholders
- Provide variance reports for each milestone estimate to communicate scope development
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Construction or similar, plus five or more years as an Estimator for commercial construction projects
- Conceptual estimating experience; ability to work with minimum information
- Experience in large commercial projects
- Knowledge of building/general construction practices, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction documents
- Ability to collaborate and function well within a team-oriented environment
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and RS Means estimating software
- Ability to multitask and meet established deadlines
