About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform full cycle accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations and reporting
  • Maintain consistency and quality of accounting processes
  • Contribute to accurate financial statement information
  • Prepare financial information for reporting purposes
  • Assist leadership with accounting processes and compliance with policies and procedures
  • Perform accounting activities supporting accurate financial reports within established timelines
  • Prepare complex accounting transactions for a complete and accurate general ledger
  • Review data and determine appropriate journal entries
  • Provide feedback on accounting process improvements
  • Prepare standard and complex general ledger reconciliations
  • Review accounting variances and maintain monthly working paper files for financial statements and external audit
  • Communicate with stakeholders regarding variances and corrective action
  • Prepare ad hoc, analytical and specialized reports for management and internal and external parties
  • Participate in peer networks, committees, organizational projects and credit union initiatives
  • Provide technical accounting advice to staff
  • Guide less experienced team members
  • Maintain knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting required
  • CPA designation, or final stages of pursuing, required
  • 3+ years of experience in a full cycle accounting role required
  • Experience in a financial institution is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills, verbally and in writing
  • Proven organizational skills, including balancing multiple responsibilities and meeting deadlines
  • Working knowledge of accounting standards
  • Proficiency with computer software applications such as MS Office, with superior Excel skills
  • Experience working with GL systems
  • Understanding of risk and risk ownership, with adherence to policies and procedures
  • Successful candidates must complete a background check, including employment verification, credit check and criminal record check
