About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare banking system general ledger reconciliations within established deadlines
  • Carry out daily operational accounting duties, including time-sensitive tasks
  • Investigate accounting variances and provide supporting documentation
  • Respond to banking settlement inquiries
  • Support branch and shared services staff with settlement-related processes
  • Maintain process documentation and communicate settlement processes and procedures
  • Complete daily time-sensitive reconciliations, including investigation and resolution, to mitigate risk
  • Escalate financial, reputational, and member-risk concerns to leadership or appropriate stakeholders
  • Communicate with branch and shared services stakeholders regarding reconciliation issues and processes
  • Troubleshoot issues, make recommendations, and request adjustments as required
  • Collaborate on reconciliations in accordance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Escalate large or out-of-tolerance outstanding variances
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Follow up on corrections to banking system entries
  • Seek process, workflow, automation, and efficiency improvements
  • Recommend process changes and participate in change management related to accounting or system changes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma required
  • Diploma in accounting preferred
  • 2 years of experience related to banking, administration or accounting
  • Solid understanding of banking system settlement
  • Experience within a financial institution preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to perform tasks with little or no supervision within time-sensitive deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Working knowledge of banking systems
  • Proficient with computer software applications, including MS Office
  • Superior skills in Excel
  • Understanding of risk and risk ownership, with demonstrated adherence to policies and procedures
