About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring pet well-being
- Apply technical skills in surgery, dentistry, laboratory procedures, venipuncture, anesthesia, surgical assistance, and restraint
- Contribute to the day-to-day efficiency and smooth operation of the hospital
- Communicate effectively with team members and clients
- Maintain thorough and accurate medical charts according to hospital quality standards
- Educate clients about Wellness Plans, pet care, and overall health
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, and facilitate patient intake and discharge
- Obtain medical histories and patient information
- Track and restock hospital supplies and manage inventory
- Complete assigned hospital duties before the end of each shift
- Advocate for the overall success and performance of the hospital
- Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional customer service
- Adapt service to individual client needs and resolve complaints as appropriate
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 6+ months of experience in the veterinary industry
- Completion of an NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (preferred)
- Technical skills in surgery, dentistry, laboratory procedures, venipuncture, restraint techniques, anesthesia, and surgical assistance
- Knowledge of handling dogs, cats, and exotic animals
- Knowledge of basic animal care, including feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring for distress or illness
- Knowledge of common medical procedures, including medication administration, wound care, and diagnostic testing assistance
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
- Ability to learn computer software systems, including EMR and scheduling systems
- Strong customer service, communication, organizational, empathy, compassion, and approachability skills
- Ability to maintain accuracy while managing interruptions
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb
- Good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity, visual acuity, and ability to reach and grasp
- Availability for 10+ hour shifts, Saturdays, evenings, and holidays
- Ability to work onsite; remote work is not available
- Ability to comply with OSHA standards and company policies
